Would universal basic income work?
I guess I’m against UBI, even though I like the principle of a basic living income available with no questions asked.
The problem is that UBI would either have to be pretty minimal — not really enough to live on — or would be extremely expensive, much more than a set of need-based programs that provide some people, but not everyone, with a living income.
I wish I could give a different answer. But UBI (unlike single payer) has some real feasibility problems.
